Im going to be removing the AC from my truck. I never EVER use it and want to know some benefits you guys may have experienced by removing it all together. Plus I need to make room for a trans cooler, and that damn condenser takes up so much space!

Also, has anyone used one of those transcoolers that look like this:

This is not what I would get, but is this STYLE good for our rigs?

Honestly I would recommend leaving it right where it is. I too once had a/c and took everything out of it. I just didnt need it in colorado. Now I live near death valley and the truck becomes undriveable for 4 months out of the year. You dont gain anything by removing it except for underhood room. There are no performance gains as the only time the system drags on the engine is when you turn it on, which you said you dont. If it works I would say leave it alone.

About the only downside to AC is whatever economy loss (probably negligible when it's off, and weight, also likely negligible), space, and it makes the radiator more inefficient both running and not running as it blocks airflow.

Not worth pulling IMO unless you completely replace the AC housing, as THAT is what gets in the way.

Also wouldn't do the swap without either going with the heavy duty heater option, or at least retain and use the AC blower motor, otherwise the heater/defroster will be WEAK compared to the AC/HD heater setups.

I guess the problem im running into is WHERE should i mount my trans cooler? I have radiator, condenser, oil cooler (to the right side) all in the grill. I am afraid if I mount a tranny cooler on the left side, it will block airflow even more to the radiator. any suggestions?

Thats where my trans and steering coolers are mounted without issue. Another suggestion would be to get an electric fan. Then you can mount the cooler and fan anywhere you want.

yeah, i have seen the ones that b&m sell as a kit. where do you think i could get away with installing one of these? inner fender well?

As long as the condenser isn't plugged up with corrosion, leaves, or dead bugs, air will flow through it, just like the radiator.

On all my trucks I've mounted the biggest B&M cooler I could get from Summit, behind the grille but in front of the radiator/condenser.

ok so heres another question, do you think this mod should be done first, or should i go with the derale trans pan first? need the most bang for the buck!

yup, biggest stacked plate you can get..

As for AC removal, eh, that depends on what direction your going on the build.. For me, it was inevitable. I wanted/needed the clean space... I am VERY pleased with the Summit heater, but it isn't for every build...

You should take it out, and then PM me... :D

To back up another reply, I didn't think I wanted it, I always said, I have windows... but I am looking to set up some AC which was already pulled when I got the truck, well, half of it or so...
