Removing cab cap Emergency!

Ok so im trying to take the cap off my 91 k5 for the first time, ive got the seatbelts undone from the cap, the wiring is disconnected, and the 16? Safety torques are out(All of them, however many there are).

I tried taking the cap off, its stuck, ok, it was probably never taken off, so I get some pieces of wood, a bottle jack and go at it by the back by the tailgate, its lifting some, but looks to be pins, or bolts in the back pulling at the edge of the truck where the cap normally sits, is there something else there holding it in im not aware of?

Please help ASAP, thanks alot

did u take the bolts out that go up through the bottom?

there are two bolts that are in the rear of the Cap that come up through the bottom, take off the interior trim and remove theses bolts, don't put them back in and it will be easier next time to remove the top

Not that it's needed....but.....x3 on the two bottom bolts....

Thanks alot everyone, sorry I didnt respond faster, I got it off, wasn't aware of those two bolts on each side.

I got it off, got pictures, will post them soon, its unfrikenbelievable with the top off, I love it!

Can I leave those two bolts in the back off? I am worried about sealing, though it doesnt look like it will be a problem.

No...leave them out. You will not have any issues.

If the top won't seal, it's not because of the two bottom bolts.


Don't worry, I don't think anybody puts them back in....once you find them! I've probably still got six or eight, in my bolt bin, from over the years.

Haha thanks everyone, I put them back in, it was already on before I came back to reply to everyone going to rain all this week, alerady started today, next week hopefully it will be nice a day or two in a row and I can take the top off, then I will definantly leave those bolts out.

Appreciate it guys, now to figure out how to post pics.. Lol
