I have an 88 K5 and I am about to put a lift on it. i was wondering which of the front shocks could be removed. I was reading anther thread that said you could, but still unsure which is best to be removed, the front that is more up and down or the rear that is more angled. Thanks for your help.

1988 K5 Blazer, 33" Baja Claws on 15s, other than that all stock, rust bucket/ work in progress.

When I did mine I kept the forward (more vertical) shock.

Oh and welcome to CK5:wink1:

Yep keep the forward (more vertical) shock.
The main thing is to cycle your suspension and make sure you won't bottom out or over-extend the shocks.

How big a lift are you putting on?

Is there any benefit to having the quad shocks other than GM selling 6 replacement shocks instead of 4?

I still have all six of mine the previous owner painted white and put on red boots to look like Rancho but underneath the paint I peeled of a Gabriel sticker.

I need to replace mine as well but too many other things on the list at the moment. I mentioning I need shocks and hitting the same holes over and over with my wife in the truck. Eventually she will just tell me to go get shocks and use her debit card. :D

Cool thanks I'm going with 4" in the front and gonna do a poor man's shackle flip in the rear with an add aleaf. Now I just gotta figure out what shocks to go with and order some shackle bushings and rear bushings.

Yeah i'm in the same boat with my wife also. I usually just go get what I need and exagerate the amount it was needed. It will bite me in the rear one of these days but deal with it then.

If you're on a crazy tight budget you can get scratch and dent shocks on ebay from companies like Superlift... you get what you pay for but hey it's a shock and it's better than nothing.

You can cross-reference the part numbers on google to see what the original application was.

If you don't mind spending a bit more I'm VERY happy with my bilstein 5150's and 5125's (the 5125's are non-reservoir mono-tube shocks that are a great bang for the buck). I bought mine from a vendor on Pirate for a smokin' deal.

Yeah I was looking at the bilstiens because one of my Marines is running them on his truck and they work good. i was looking at mine and had another friend look at them, they are the original shocks. It's no wonder they don't work. I bought the truck for $700 not running and am diving it California legal now. So it's slowly getting better. Thanks for the info.

I had yellow bilsteins on my Toyota and liked them but when I search by make and model without a lift it only shows the 4600 series bilstein for my truck.

I ditched the rear front shock (the one that would be there for single shock setups) and am only running the forward front shock (the added shock of the quad shock option). Like mentioned above I figured the more vertical travel would be better.

I like Bilsteins but they are too rich for me right now. I've got Rough Country/Heckethorn Nitro 9000's on Big Ugly. Nitrogen charged monotube goodness for about $35 each from JCWhitney and sometimes they have a sale on them for buy 3 get one free. I've had them on a few trucks now and they work well for the money. Not on par with Bilsteins but better than a lot of the stuff in a similar price range. WAY better than Rancho BS.

I've got ACDelco nitrogen charged shocks on The Blazer but sorta regret them. Decent stuff but I think for a bit more I could have gotten better offroad shocks like the 9000's.

Alright so I think I just ordered some RoughCountry Nitro 9000's and a rough country steering dampner from JCwhittney. The reason I think i did was when i was trying to get a price for the wife and i think i oopsed it and actually ordered it. I am waiting for the confirmation email. I guess oops.

Uhhh did you put your credit card info in? If so then yeah you're probably the new owner of some Rancho stuff.... but otherwise you're still ok.

No i was having a little drink and watching the damn TV and applied for their financing. And yeah i got some rough country shocks steering stabalizer, some exaust parts and whatever else was in my cart. Oh well most of it was needed anyhow. i guess browsing and drinking and a little tv don't mix.

If you were going to shop drunk you should have been shopping for the high-dollar stuff. :)

Well thats one good thing about it. I'm not drunk enough to spend way too much, just enough to get some more check marks done on the project list. Wife's not too mad about it, but she did throw some sheets on the couch, hope she's comfortable. J/K

I was going to suggest doing some measuring. Lift kit shocks are notorious for not fitting well.

Is that like people who take ambien and then drive acroos town and had the best sex ever with an ex. Not remembering anything until all the texts she sent out start retuning to haunt her.

Or my favorite took and ambien and went to bed waking up to find $600 worth of walmrt bags in her car with the receipt staked 3am.
