removing leaf

I have a set of 4 inch Pro comp springs for the front. They are pretty stiff :doah: Nothing like the BDS I had before. With out losing lift what leaf should I take out to soften it up a bit?? It has 5 leafs.

you're gonna lose alittle bit of lift no matter what you remove unless you replace it with a zero-rate unit.

i removed the second from the bottom on my Rough Country leaves, and it softened up the "harshness" quite abit. Still firm, but not so harsh over bigger bumps and speed bumps n whatnot.

it lowered the front down maybe 1/2 an inch though.
 
i run without the bottom leaf on mine (rancho). it's a very short leaf, like an overload spring, and the loss of height came out to pretty much exactly the thickness of that leaf. well worth it imo because it flexes much better now.
 
I pulled the second leaf from my 4" procomps and it softened the ride a fair amount. I think I lost like 1/2"
 
The longer the leaf, the lower the spring rate.

Pulling a shorter leaf will have a greater impact on spring rate and ride height.

Sorry second from the bottom. It is a hell of a lot softer now I am really glad I did it. I just realized that I put a degree shim in the pack to so that might be why I only lost a 1/2" in hight
 
Dean, your bottom leaf may have that little bracket thingy that has a bolt through the top of it and looks to be riveted to the leaf. If you have it keep that leaf in and take the next one above out as you want to keep in the pack to keep the rest of the springs from fanning out. I got 56"ers fro Tchris with seven leafs in the pack and I took out the second and third leaves. BTW, do you still need me to get you the teflon/plastic pads from Deaver since I am close to their shop? like $.50 each.
 
thanks Hoby. I'm not sure about the deaver deal. This really isn't my ideal set up with the pro craps in the front. I will probably change them out to BDS or something like that at a later date. This is just to get it out on the trail and out of the lounge. :D

are pro comp springs no good? i hear a lot of people call them junk and pro crap. which brand do you guys recommend?
 
I had 6 inch BDS springs and whet down to 4 inch. The BDS springs were very good. Had the teflon pads in them and rode really nice. Worked great on the trail and road. Others use Tuff country. I haven't tried them but would be willing to because so many guys love the ride and flex.

They are just really stiff and because of that they ride like crap. If you are looking to just get the truck up in the air for cheap they work but if you want a nice ride then get something else
 
wow finally got this done. I removed the second from the bottom as everyone said, and what a difference. Very nice, thanks guys :D
