Just curious if anyone can give me a heads up on the tools, bolts, or time it might take to remove some serpentine belt acc brackets. I have a couple cars in my local junkyard that contain smog pumps (the hardest thing to find with serp brackets) and I'd like to remove at least one setup for myself. I think they were Caprices but I can't remember. They might not even be there anymore :doah:

First off i'm pretty sure the truck and car brackets are different. On the truck brackets you will need to remove the P/S pulley first in order to remove the P/S pump in order to remove the bolt that is hidden behind the pump. You will need a 13mm and a 14mm socket, extension, ratchet to remove the brackets.

If they were Caprices or Camaro's you will need a T-40 or T-45 torx bit to get the bracket off.

if you just need the smog pump, I may have the one I took off my motor.

I think I shot the smog pump that was on my 350 in the parts blazer when I did my TBI swap.

Arent the smog pumps pretty cheap at the parts store?

The car and truck brackets are different, but you can use the car brackets on a truck. I have a serpentine setup from a 1992 Camaro on my 1988 V10 Suburban.

you got all the tools correct guys. done this lots of times.

torx sockets also to pull the studs from the motor face.

and i take 12-14 3/8 nuts with me to lock all the hardware back in the brackets to remeber were it all goes with diffrent length studs.

and my 79k30 has 91-92 serp setup on it and still 79 p/s pump. only diffrence is american threads in pump to bracket.

My p/s pump is leaking all to hell and had some PO smash the side of it. So I wouldn't mind using the one that comes with the brackets. I don't need a separate smog pump, I want serpentine brackets that included a smog pump for smog purposes. The trucks never seem to have a spot for or come with smog pumps, thus looking at the car setups.

Do I need some kind of puller for the p/s pump pulley? Maybe rent one from Autozone and take it to the junkyard.

p/s pulley puller from az = good deal for the tool.

p/s pump replaced after yours ben crap = good.

and caprice has smog pump stuff as my 92 tbi 305 car had it. = good place to look for one.
