I just picked up a new daily, the passenger side door molding was in the bed when we got it, and the rest is starting to come off.

What is the best way to remove the old tape and residue with out wrecking the paint? Paint is in pretty good shape for a 96 model.

Goof off works pretty good for that but if it's dried out sometimes you have to let it soak in for a while. I've used lacquer thinner and gotten away with it before but it can damage the clear depending on the paint if you use alot of it

This is good for me too, I've still got some tape remnants on mine.

I have used a razor blade scraper. The perfect angle takes some practice but can remove it all in one good pass.

Adhesive remover wheel works great. I used the 3M wheel on the moulding adhesive before painting my gmt400. Mostly worked great, the clear coat in a few spots got damaged. It was my fault for pushing to hard. I didn't mind cause I was painting it.

Goof off removed the paint lol. I scraped some with a razor blade. I'm thinking of just getting new tape and fixing all the molding now.
Goof off removed the paint? That stuff is weak. I have done this project with heat and adhesive remover from 3M. If goof off removed the paint don't even try the 3M stuff, you will be down to bare metal. Its probably been repainted if goof off damaged it, usually that stuff is only good for a label.

There was a sticky film stuff, so i put some goof off on there with a paper towel, gave it a rub and wipe and it came off green lol

It was worth a shot, I think someone tried to fix it at one point, there was a glue residue and pieces stuck to the side of the truck along with the tape.

Goof off is acetone based. So if it was a single stage paint it would take off a bit of paint.

If you put on new strips make sure to get as much of the old adhesive off. I had a piece fall off once due to residue. Cleaned it up and stayed forever haha
