How can you remove spray paint and not damage the original paint?

Its not going to happen, at least not with any results you'll be happy with.

well i wanna paint it the "original" green like craig's and colby's trucks
the original is under there
maybe if i sand it down ... i dunno

Im going to go with light wet sanding. This will be very time consuming, but really the only way to preserve the org. paint, and even still your bound it eat into the org. paint some. Any chemical will eat thru all of it.

Depends on what type of paint went on. I repair paint for a living. Anything you do will need to be repainted. The OE clear coat will probably be damaged by the buzz bomb paint that was put on it. I would sand it off and prep the truck for real paint.

Goof Off can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe's. It is great for removing paint drops, glue, vinyl letters and gum from your daughters hair.

I guess it depends on what you want it to look like. Is it a trailer and road queen or a wheeler? Too much time painting and you will not want to scratch it. I would primer camo it and then clear it. But thats just my opinion. And opinions are like butt holes. Everyone has one and they all stink.

Try a little lacquer thinner in a spot that is not that noticeable. If you go easy with it you might get lucky.

You are probably out of luck. The aggressive solvents on the spray paint make it stick and bite into the OEM paint. When you remove the spray coating you will also thin or remove the OEM coating. In reality, I bet the hood paint faded and pealed off. The previous owner probably spray primed ( and / or painted ) the hood and surrounding areas to prevent surface rust and cover over bondo.
I suggest carefully dragging a magnet incased in a hankerchief around the lower door and fender areas. A magnet will stick to steel but not to bondo. If bondo areas look good, wet sand entire vehicle, reprime with a sandable primer and repaint with desired color. It is a labor of love if you want it to look good.

You may think i'm nuts but really EZ OFF oven cleaner.

Nope, I once had a truck graffitied /tagged and in like 2 hours it was ready for a wax but looked good. Another time I bought a truck from a company that had all sorts of logo's and phone numbers etc painted on and it took them right off. The cheap 90's GM paint stayed on. Dont let it stand on there for a long time, and wipe it off with a rag and hose. I guess I should say it depends on what is under the spray paint?

We've been using ez-off on names on boat transoms for over 20 yrs.... not much call these days, as most names are vinyl, as opposed to brush.. but that is over gelcoat...

op, your gonna have to prime the truck anyway.. get a DA and some 150 to 180 and go at it.. you'll be feathering back bad areas under the rattlecan anyway...

chemicals, thinner, ez-off, etc can cause more work than just ripping it with a DA in the first place... your still gonna have to sand it and sometimes strippers leave the remaining rattlecan stuff soft in areas, thus they sand like chit....

rip it, blow it off, denatured alcohol, mask and load some urethane primer on...
