repairing steering box frame crack

whats the fix ? neighbor's 79 shortbox k-10 frame rail is cracked both vertically and horizontally under the steering box the frame rail moves quite a bit


welding is definitely required, but what metal should be added and where exactly ?

i figure channel placed inside rail and the four box holes welded through it,

right ?

what do you guys use for this ?

'Weld in' frame repair kit works best without adding any wierd stress risers (which would lead to worse cracking later)

ORD or almost any off road shop would have the kit available.

PS... do a search and kidjethro made a video clip on how to install that steering box brace. very helpful when i was helping out my buddy doing that on his 2nd gen.
