How do I remove the front caliper on my 85 Chevy 1 ton 4X4 dually? A picture or two would be nice. Thanks.

Front caliper removal 85 Chevy 1 ton

There was no allen head screw but I finally figured out how to drive out the wedge that holds the caliper in place. Mystery solved! Thanks for the reply!

Good to see another Kansan on here. Even better to see another Kansan who likes K30's.

Love my K30

I love my K30 Silverardo with a 5.9 turbo Cummins diesel engine and 5 speed manual transmission. Yes, a Cummins diesel not the original GM 6.2 diesel. It is the Crew Cab, long bed, dually with A/C, p.s., p.b., p.door locks and p. windows. It is black with a wide, red stripe down the side. The interior was changed from the bench seats to the Suburban interior with bucket seats in front and floor and overhead console. I'll post a picture of it, sometime. What set up does yours have?

Do post up pics.

And which one? I have 3 K30's and 1 V30. :D But that's not all. I've also got an '01 K2500HD crew shorty and the daily driver '98 Jimmy.

There is no place a screw can go on these calipers. This is a Bendix brake system, which must be different from what you are talking about. Where is the screw you are refering to, located? It would have to be on the caliper, right? When I removed the clip and wedge from the caliper, it removed easily. I'll look some more, tomorrow but I really don't think there is a screw that holds the caliper on. When I started this project I looked at the Chilton "almost worthless" Truck Repair Manual and they said there were two bolts holding the caliper in place. No Way!! They made so many brands of brake systems, it's hard to keep up with them. Appreciate your input!

store manuals = crap .

$25.00 membership here = best spent money .

and that video link shows allen drive big screw remove to get wedge out . just as original poster of video said at time stamp in video .

WOW!! You do own some trucks! I would like to buy another K30, automatic, and have seen some with the 454 engine. Have you had enough experience (miles) with them to tell me something about them? Such as, are they durable (good for 200,000 miles?), what kind of fuel economy, etc. If anyone else reads this reply and has some knowledge about the 454, please speak up. Thanks.

I'll drink to the store manuals=crap! This site seems like a good one. You members actually reply, unlike a lot of other sites I have been on. Thanks!

454's are good for one thing: draining your wallet.

Gas, gas and more gas. Don't get me wrong, they make all the power you could ever want if built right but your wallet will be hit hardest over time with the frequent trips to the pump.

My Silverado is warmed over and it gets 5 mpg tops. The 2500HD gets 11-12 mpg unloaded on the highway. That drops down to 7 when pulling a load.

In my opinion, running a BBC is good for bragging rights nowadays. Just remember one thing with owning one: you gotta pay to play.

That's been true since they invented big blocks!..:D

I miss the 454's I had,and the nailhead Buicks,my 400 Pontiac in the '69 GTO..yeah,they liked to drink, but it felt worth it,when you could pull anything, beat other vehicles at stoplight drags, and pass anything (but a gas station !),and burn the tires down to the rims if you wanted too..:burnout:..:D

Today I suppose a LS small block would rival or beat a healthy big block..but when you open the hood, the "wow" factor just ain't there...:(

Skunked, you were right!

Dear Skunked, Thanks for the great video. You were, of course, right about removing the screw. The reason I couldn't see it was because of the bad light not letting me see that the screw had been broken off flush with the brake mount! I looked at it in the sunshine we had today and saw it. Then it was simply a matter of drilling it out and tapping it - lots of fun, but as you said it needs to be done right! Thanks, again!:waytogo:

Thanks for that very good information!! I think I will stick with a Cummins or possibly try a Chevy Dura Max diesel since those 454s get such lousey gas mileage.
