I finally got my '85/'86 on the road and working on some of the gremlins. The wiper switch in my column is apparently defective. PO bypassed it, but the toggle only operates the wipers halfway:mad: I would like intermittent, but the levers only hi/lo/off. For some reason, I can not even wrap my head around what is needed to be swithced out:dunno: My column does have a black plastic aluminum heat bank, but that may not even be related. Searched and could not find a detailed, preferably pictured guide. Chiltons says leave it to the profesionals and I do not have a factory service manual.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Kenny

did it have int. wipers when it began life?, i just replaced some parts on mine to fix it again, let me know, maybe i can find the gm part #'s if i look around.....p.s. i recomend buying from gmpartsdirect.com, i got o.e. delco for less than checker junk

There's only three parts to the system.
The motor, the little black box and the switch. None of which are difficult to swap out. The switch is the most time consuming, because you have to remove the steering wheel to get to it, but not difficult.

I detailed the wiring in this thread

If you do some google searchs for replacing GM wiper switch threre are some really good write ups with pictures out there on exactly how to get to the switch.

But, what do you really mean when you say 'they only come on half way'? Are you sure the truck had intermittent wipers to begin with? The little black box is present on your model with or w/o intermittent wipers. The switch doesn't go bad so often. Usally it's the motor or the box.
And just a general tip, the wiper system is a negative switched elec. accessory. Meaning, the motor and black box simply complete the path to ground, power is present at all times in most places in the system. Just remember that when troubleshooting.

73k5blazer, typing what you said into google brought up the exact procedure I was looking for:waytogo:. Everything that I tried was a fail:(. I suspect that now that with your explanation/thread and Dyeagers service manual that I have something wrong with my park circuit. Also, the PO didnt undersand the system either. I am going to replace my HI/LO switch in the column with an intermittent switch. Then troubleshoot from there. Sound right?
Thank you all for your help

Just to clarify, with an 85 motor, harness, and delay module, the option that determines intermittent wipers is the switch and lever, correct?
