Hi Gang, I have an Edelbrock 1405 600 CFM 4 barrell carburetor on my 1973 CK5. When I got the truck, it had (I just discovered) the wrong air filter assembly and air filter on it (way too small). I just replaced it with an Edelbrock P/N 1221 Air Cleaner Assembly but the bottom half of the housing does not have a nipple to plug the hose coming from the PCV valve onto it.

It looks like there are knockouts on the bottom of the air cleaner assembly pan to put the PCV valve nipple onto it... but it did not come with it.

How to rectify? Thank you!!!

I reference the same PDF from Edelbrock... not the issue.

PCV valve that plugs into right valve cover has hose coming off it that (used) to plug into underside of air filter assembly (i.e. the bottom "pan" of the air filter housing). New air filter assembly is missing the nipple that the hose coming from the PCV valve would plug onto. (sorry if that's confusing... will upload pics shortly when I get back home). Thank you!

I think your referring to the "bowtie" breather filter that sits inside the air filter housing...that is the "intake vent" for the PVC system, the PVC valve goes on the drivers side valve cover and the breather tube connects to that filter and into the passenger side valve cover..

Those pics are very helpful... Ahhh...wait a minute... I'm an idiot. You're saying the hose comes from the valve cover PCV valve to that nipple on the carb and NOT to the lower half of the air filter assembly. Got it. The reason I didn't see that originally is that the PCV nipple coming off the front of the carb already has a hose connected to it going to the driver's side valve cover. Pics attached. Do I maybe have one-too-many PCV valves? Thank you!

My passenger cover only has that filter on it, that's it. There is no hose to the air filter. The driver side has the pcv valve and it goes to the carb.

As long as the passenger side valve cover gets filtered air IN ,so the PVC valve on the drivers side valve cover can suck the vapors out of the crankcase, that is "good enough"..

It would be better if there was another filter like the bowtie though..but many aftermarket valve covers only use a vented cap on the passenger side,no tube to the air cleaner housing..

I have simply stuck the bowtie filter into the grommet without the tube on a few engines that had a "hot rod" air filter housing with no provision for a PVC vent filter..but oil fumes would eventually coat things near the bow tie..

The stock air cleaner I posted the diagram of is how GM did it in stock form....evidently those aftermarket air filter housings had a knock out to put in a grommet for the tube, but dont use that bowtie filter, instead they rely on the air cleaner element itself to do both jobs..
That bowtie filter helps remove more dirt & dust and also prevents oil from puddling up in the air cleaner housing--it can do that ,because under wide open throttle the PVC valve loses its vacuum and some blow-by will huff out of the passenger side valve cover vent tube and it will accumulate in the air filter housing..
