As title says, I only had to replace the pump and not the whole set-up. When I bought this blazer 2 years ago I had to replace the whole pump set-up ($248.99). Man....that's not cheap....but the pump only cost me $65.00 so it was a heck of a lot less this time.
Why did the pump only last 2 years? Who knows.....but while I was replacing it I decided to cut an opening above the tank for easier access. I mean come on, the new fuel pump only has a 1 year warranty, so I'm sure I'll be getting back there again in the future. And it will be nice not having to drop the tank.
What happened to the fuel pump? I drove the blazer to work....parked it like every morning. Drove company truck to do my job. Came back that afternoon to go home. Blazer wouldn't start. Turned over but no fuel. I wondered if this was just a coinsidence, or did the ignition module go bad.
Did a search and learned to test the fuel system different ways. One of the tests was for the pump (red insulated wire at the relay). I actually took a hot wire all the way to the tank to make sure there wasn't a possible open in the circuit. No noise came from tank so I bought the pump and the rest is history. She's back on the road. Ahhhhhhhhhh.
Doing a search on here makes a big difference, and I know someone will always chime in and help if needed.
Thanks CK5
