My wife's car AWD ford edge just blew out a tire thanks to the lovely place we both work. Talking with the tire place they are suggesting replacing all 4 due to the awd system. My insurance company will be billing our workplace's insurance to get it handles. So should I replace all 4 or just two, or just one? Current tires have plenty of life left, but have about 30k on them. So going to a new tire would make a difference.

its a gamble doing 1-2 over all 4 .

had a guy come in one time with his spare on and 3 others the same wear . the spare was new and oem brand . other 3 were not oem installed but all were same size on sidewall info . he had a horrific vib / noise over 30mph . it was the awd / abs / traction control going crazy . the spare was almost 3/4" taller overall to the other 3 .

the abs / traction control will see the speed of each tire and tell the computer . if there is a difference it will throw the system in to a fault mode .

if me i would check ebay for same tire / size used with about the same depth as your good ones left on the vehicle . or get 4 and save the 2 good and resell.

also why not just have work pay for it and not hassle the insurance company with all this and cause problems . . .

I own a Subaru and I always buy 4. I was told you can wreak havoc on their awd system if the sizes are off.

You might be able to have them shaved down or heat cycled to the same diameter maybe.

Per Ford all four are required or the slip mechanism will slip a shitload. Boom.

Earliest appointment is Saturday. Getting all 4 replaced. I filed a claim with the hospitals insurance policy because the vallet and security told me this isn’t the first damaged car. You can see the front and or rear valance laying between i this picture.

Is that written anywhere? I’d like to prove to the hospital that all 4 are required.

Must for a Ferd thing. G/F's car blew a tire, put one new one on, and at first was going crazy. ABS light, traction control and some other stupid light would come on, but only going around semi sharp corners. Checked air pressure in the other tires, waaaaaaayyyyyyyy off!!! Filled till they were all the same, and no more issues. 04 Rav4.....

Well thanks to @obijuank5 i showed the documents to the claims people. They are paying for one full tire and 50% of the other 3. I will take that.
