Back in the late 70's my '56 Chevy pickup had its cigar lighter malfunction...my friend was trying to get it to work so he could light a cigarette, and it wouldn't heat up...he tries scraping off the heating element with a penny, tries it again,no dice..
Then he decides maybe something in the socket is keeping the element from going in ,or its dirty,so he sticks his finger in it...about 2 seconds later he yelps, and yanks his finger out quickly, and looks at it--the tip was all scorched, and it smelled like burnt hair!..
I said "No way did you get a shock--you cant get a shock from 12V dc,I can put my hands across a battery's terminals and nothing happens"..
He says "OH YEAH"?...grabs my right hand and shoves my finger in the socket, and yup..sure enough,my finger got BURNED!..
..
"Tell me NOW you cant get a shock from 12v!"..
..
I handed him my Bic lighter and said here--use THIS instead!..
