Replacement cigarette lighter.

Back in the late 70's my '56 Chevy pickup had its cigar lighter malfunction...my friend was trying to get it to work so he could light a cigarette, and it wouldn't heat up...he tries scraping off the heating element with a penny, tries it again,no dice..
Then he decides maybe something in the socket is keeping the element from going in ,or its dirty,so he sticks his finger in it...about 2 seconds later he yelps, and yanks his finger out quickly, and looks at it--the tip was all scorched, and it smelled like burnt hair!..
I said "No way did you get a shock--you cant get a shock from 12V dc,I can put my hands across a battery's terminals and nothing happens"..
He says "OH YEAH"?...grabs my right hand and shoves my finger in the socket, and yup..sure enough,my finger got BURNED!....
"Tell me NOW you cant get a shock from 12v!"..
..

I handed him my Bic lighter and said here--use THIS instead!..:doah:

That was not a 12v shock, it's the contact getting hot because it wasn't enough contact to get the lighter hot just the tip of the contact

All I know is it took about a month for my finger to heal !...

I have gotten a shock off a 12V battery once too--not anything like you get from 110V AC,but enough to make you yank your hand back in a hurry..

Yes, you CAN get a 12v shock.. lol. Trust me. Try it when your sweating your balls off, like sauna hot.

Years ago in my dad's 72 heavy half pickup with no AC. We were driving around for a while on an extremely hot day. Went through the bank drive through, all of us sweating like mad. And all the sudden smoke starts billowing out from under the dash.

I looked under the dash on my side and seen a ten or twelve gauge wire red hot with no insulation left. told Dad and he threw me his pocket knife and screamed CUT IT! I reached down, planted a hand on the steel dash and hooked that knife under the wire because I wasn't about to touch it with my hand. And it LIT ME UP! I jumped so fast and hard back that I cut the wire and yanked it out from under the dash a ways.

@Vombrown did you ever get this installed? I’ve got one that will be here later today and didn’t know if I needed to do any fab work to make it fit the ashtray.
