Ok so I have some goodyears 37 inch H1's and they are starting to wear down tread wise on my k5. I have a 35 spline dana 60 front with chromoloy inner and outer shafts with a lockrite locker with 4.88 gears. 14 bolt in the rear with stock 30 spline shafts and a detroit. What tire size can I get away with before I start breaking axel shafts? I am not looking to make a monster truck I just want a little bit more ground clearance without going overboard on tire size and price. I wheel in mud/sand local to southern al.

I'm sure you could run 42's, with very little issue.
Obviously, intelligent driving is always handy,
but I'm sure a 4340-D60 could hold up to getting a little crazy on 42's.

Yeah I just noticed that I started loosing clearance when I went to 1 tons. With my tread running lower on my tires I figured I needed to replace em sooner or later.

In the interest of saving money would Michelin military tires be a viable option? I have seen sets on ebay for 900 for 4. I know that they are 46 inches in diameter, but would they be too much for these axels to handle? I have a tbi 350 under the hood.

Any brand recommendations? I am using 16.5 inch wheels, but i could change wheel size if it would be more cost effective.

The michelin tires are balls heavy and suck for a light rig from what ive seen.

I would say

42pitbull rocker
43 superswamper sx
42 tsl

Thanks fellas, it'll be a bit before I buy anything. I am still in the doghouse for buying some other "essential" parts for my truck. I think I will go with pitbull rockers mainly because they make radials in the size i want. Either that or find something used on craiglist between now and then.

I bought a load of 46" Michelins and Goodyears out of RRAD a few months ago. They're heavy. The goodyears were 225 pounds each, and I know the Michelins were slightly heavier. I couldnt imagine the labor required to get one mounted on a regular 20" wheel.
