Hello to All,
I know there are some threads on this but can't seem to find definitive answers. I have a 74 K5 with original 350/203 of unknown and leaky condition.
I want to use the 700R4/208 out of my donor 84 K10. The length is off, the cross member mount looks about 4" too close, Thought I could move cross member back (i.e. drill new holes) but the 74 x member is also bolted to the top of the frame rail might be tough to remount without taking body off frame. Some folks talk about moving motor mounts forward but seems like a big PITA. Trying to do this project on the cheap.

Ideas??? Thanks I will post more about putting newer parts on the older K5

steering gear, dash, wiper motor, column etc.

Sawzall the old trans crossmember out and replace with the "W" looking one from the 84. Drill holes if needed. Should be straight forward except the shifter setup. You'll need to cut the floor and mount the box for that. The steering column detent might need to be changed to access the 700's 1st gear, since it still thinks it has a 3 speed.

Pretty much. The column won't care which transmission you have as the detents occur in the transmission, but you may have to adjust the linkage.
