replacing a clutch? *Almost there now...

i do need to replace the motor mounts... that'll be done with the clutch.

Need to replace it also. If you don't have a puller you can pack the hole in the bushing w/ grease & insert a piece of round stock a little smaller than the bushing hole. Smack the round stock with a hammer & hydraulically force out the bushing.

Only necessary if the pilot bushing is bad. PITA to remove, although they do make pullers specifically for those.

I always use a brass one if I can get it. Some guys like the actual bearings, I'll stick with the brass pilot bushing.

So I made some headway on the clutch this weekend.

I got the trans and tcase out at started to clean them up. Took me longer than anticipated because of a couple hard to reach bolts and frozen bolt in an awkward place.

The throw out bearing was the root of all my problems as it is TOASTED. It has left some wear marks on the input bearing retainer.
Anyway enjoy the pictures:

New Engine hoist put to some good work:

Good work!

I am not looking forward to the day I need to do mine.. the barn floors are gravel

Good job, I just got that exact same engine hoist today. I have quite a few jobs lined up for it and I hate renting them.

is that a fourwheeler jack and how much did it help on taking it out?? i mean mines gonna be heavier with the 205 transfer but my dad has a similar jack and i figure it'll beat the hell out of 2 reg. floor jacks

Ya the fourwheeler jack is borrowed from my neighbor. I used the engine hoist to lower the assembly down onto the jack and then wheeled it out from under the truck.

Where did you get yours? I got mine on ebay from a shop in NH. I paid $140 :deal: :D

I got mine off of Craigslist with a 1250 lb engine stand. Both brand new and in the boxes for $225. It was a good deal for here...

Update!! I have major issues now

Apparently the clutch and flywheel in my truck is not a setup from a K10, I believe its a setup from the 83 Firebird which the engine is out of. So the old clutch disk and flywheel measure out to be 10.5" not 11" or 12" like its supposed to be... :angry1::angry1::angry1::angry1:

Look at those release fingers they are worn to **** and one is bent to boot.

So now I guess I need a new flywheel now... ****ing great

Why not reuse the flywheel and get a new clutch to fit? Just have the flywheel turned. There are many Hi-perf. 10.5 clutches out there that will do the job.

and valve cover gasket!..

Next weekend will be all de-greasing. I think the leak is coming from my oil pressure sender... as the valve cover gaskets are recently new

I'm doing some price comparisons now and trying to figure out if resurfacing this flywheel and exchanging my clutch for one that fits or if its cheaper to get a new flywheel.

If you can find a used flywheel, around here its about $25 to have one turned. They should be darn near free.

id get new flywheel bolts as well
