Replacing a D60 pinion yoke ??

I want to change my yoke to a 1350. How hard is it and what do I need to do?

correct way involves almost total disassembly so you can toss in a new crush sleeve. Pull shafts, pull carrier, pull old pinion nut and trash it, remove yoke and tap out pinion, toss on new crush sleeve, reassemble with new pinion nut and locktite...torque to spec (17-30 INCH pounds...), toss in carrier and retorque cap bolts to spec (80 ft lbs) and finish reassembly.

I unbolted the 1310, and bolted on the 1410. Drank beer...

I did need to use a floor jack under the breaker bar handle to break loose the pinion nut though.

I did the same thing when changing the pinion seal on my old D44...

i dont think there is a crush sleve in a 60... at least i was told my 70 didnt have one...

I was told unbolt, replace rebolt, use impact gun to tighten.
drink beer...

All Chevy dana 60's use shims to set pinion bearing preload. That means that you can remove the yoke, replace it and simply torque down the new one (torque spec is 200-300 ft. lbs. IIRC). Always, always, ALWAYS use a new pinion nut. It will loosen and destroy the ring and pinion if you don't.

Dana/Spicer generally used shims to set pinion bearing preload. This is the better way to do it but it requires more time, money and effort at the factory (which is why many axles use crush sleeves).

Not all Dana axle use shims, so don't assume that they do ;)

I was planning to use a new nut. I need it wheelable June 6th and my 5.13's will not be installed untill after that. I am building a new front shaft and didn't want a conversion joint.

You also need a thin-walled socket or you can grind one down. I bought one at a pawn shop that was already ground down (8 bucks!) I think it is 1 5/16".
