Old dipstick broke.

Old dipstick tube was pressed in with some kind of grommet. New dipstick is thicker and has an O-ring. I assume I remove the old grommet and the new o-ring dipstick should hopefully work? let me know if I'm missing something.

First time I've ever seen a dipstick break. was happy that I could pull the broken part out, I thought it was going to be down in the pan

I have better luck getting the grommets to seal. As long as the rubber isn’t cracking you should be fine

The long grommet is better than the o-ring. Is this a TH-350? Look for a locking-top dipstick, even if it means swapping the top with another. 1 time of ATF puking on the exhaust manifold is 1 time too many.

Agreed, the long grommet plus the locking style dip stick are a winning combo.

Yea I tried that Mr gasket oring type and it leaked so I switched to a lokar unit in my th350 works well I don't like having to use the included adapter for the funnel though

thanks guys, I got the Chrome dipstick and pretty good, very tight fit. Unfortunately the bracket is an inch above the mounting hole, I guess that's what happens with a $15 dipstick tube.

I was surprised at how much tranny fluid came out when I pulled out the old dipstick. I didn't think anything would spill, but I lost at least a quart, maybe two? I had the dipstick tube out for like three days and it slowly filled up a pan! I'm guessing that this is fluid that came from torque converter?

no pump spin = fluid drain back and fill case up past pan seal/gasket level .

this is why they will leak more parked than running if the gasket is bad or tube seal is bad .
