I want to replace the front springs on my 78 GMC 454 truck. I use it for towing, hauling, and plowing snow, but the camper and plow don't stay on the truck all the time. I definitely want Tuff Country springs #18371 (3" lift HD) but not sure if the plow and heavy engine are too heavy for these springs. I don't mind if they sag a little...as long as it's not unsafe. My current Superlift springs are sagging, and I don't like how they ride anyway. Wadyya think?

that plow isnt that heavy. try 1 of my 8ft or 9ft fisher speedcaster blades. 8ft is 750 lbs and 9ft is 825 lbs there abouts.:eek1:

i have a set of 4" springs in mine. dont know brand but 5 leaf thick steel and ride o.k. for a k30 and only drop around 1/2 -3/4 inch when plow is lifted. when driving around town with plow up its good ride and feels good no to spungy.

i know a guy who installed the smaller air bag kit on his front end for when he is plowing . he loves it.

i would say the 3" springs in the hd option would be fine for your big block and snow plow needs. the rear i would pic a good spring or air bag kit in the back. i have installed a lot of the air bag kits for people and thay love them in the back with full load of tools / camper / trailers / welder rig units & so on.

That sounds way heavy for a plow!! Mine isn't anywhere near that weight. I can almost pick up one end of it....if it wasn't for my bad back!

It sounds like the Tuff Country springs should work OK for my truck from what I'm reading.

Thanks for your post. You must plow for $$ with more than one blade. I'm just trying to keep our driveway (and our neighbors) clear during winter. The big plows keep our roads clear but they leave a huge berm in front of the driveways! Their plows are the Caterpillar 6 wheeled behemoths!

no plow for bissness here. just found some good deal on complete setup for my truck. then this sumer i found a deal on a 9ft blade that wass to good to pass up. so 1 truck 2 blades to choice from.

good luck in the spring build.
