replacing motor mounts

i have a 78 with a tcase rubber mounts that look shot. it is so bad that it looks like the rubber has melted. It has lots of cracks in it.

my guess is that the engine mounts are bad also. it is possible to check this visually?

I'm not going to go with poly. I would rather stay with rubber. Can i just replace the rear tcase/tranny mount or should i replace all mounts?

If the trans/t-case mount is shot, odds are the motor mount are on their way if they aren't already...

It's not hard to do the motor mounts... If you're getting under there and getting greasy already, might as well do it... If they are original to the truck, they are over 30 years old...

BTW, what part of WA are you at???

I would replace all the mounts at the same time.

I just did this. I first did the t-case mounts. unbolted both bolts, raised it till I was able to remove the old ones. Then installed the new ones. For the engine mounts, I did one side at a time, which I feel is betta than doing both at the same time. So I start with jacking up one side, remove the long bolt. then jack it up more, enough to do the other bolts. install the new mount, install the bolts, lower down and slide longer bolt in while doing so. Repeat on the other side.

How did you support the engine? What did you jack on to rise the engine?

Where did you obtain the mounts? Did you go with poly or rubber? Wer the mounts good quality? I'm thinking about going with rubber.

use a piece of 2x4 wood under a floor jack under the oil pan, won't damage it, you're not lifting the engine out of the bay with it, only raising it a few inches.

even splitting the spread of the 2x4 across the oil pan and the trans to distribute the weight.

What type of motor mounts did you go with?
