Has anyone replaced the rear floor support crossmember? Can it be bolted in place? Looks like the rear bedside is then welded to it after bolted in? Obviously the tailgate needs to come off first. Basically what is the process to remove and replace?

IIRC, I had to cut loose a lot of spot welds from the whole width of the floorpan.

I think most of those floorpan spot welds are rusted away so might be good there, anymore welds that have to be removed?

The bedsides on mine were tacked as well. I think you got all the welds, mine had seam sealer all over it too IIRC. I'm trying to remember if it was spot welded up inside the wire holes. I don't think it was.

I checked my thread where I cut all of the rear deck and tailpan out and Dont see where I made note of any other spotwelds. Perhaps when I decided to cut out the tailpan crossmember I quit worrying about spot welds. I do see a couple of self tapping bolts holding the corners together though.

Here's my thread on replacing it and there are a few others. https://ck5.com/forums/threads/repa...lacing-the-tailpan-and-floor-patching.333499/ The trick is that both of the tailgate posts come down in front and behind the piece you're trying to replace, and that piece is wider than the distance between the lower quarter panels. You have to lift the rear of the body up quite a bit to work it in there.

The tailpan is rusted out but the lower tailgate posts are fine? Seems like they're usually worst in the corners.
