How long of a job is it to replace the injection pump on a 6.2l?

Mine is on its last leg, real smokey starts, wont start after its hot (unless in a pinch you pour some cold water on the pump)!!

Is there a decent write up on the steps needed to do this?

The best thing to do would be to plan on removing the timing cover and replacing the timing chain at the same time. To do it right it will probably take 4-5 hours with all parts and tools on hand for a competent mechanic. Plan for a weekend of work to allow for time to run back and forth to the parts store for the little thing you forgot though.

Ill be sure to get the time chain aswell. Is there a procedure to time them without having to have a diesel timing light?

Align the timing marks then drive straight to a shop to get it set right. There is no method of setting the timing without a diesel timing light. Last time I had one set it was $30.

Alright I put the new pump on and left the lines cracked and cant get any fuel out of the pump. There is good pressure going to the pump and the pump itself has fuel, it just wont deliever any to the injector lines themselves??? Is there a special purge/bleed prodcedure I didnt know about??

Also will a Roosamaster pump with the following infor work on a 84 6.2L J code?

Roosamaster tag are: DB2829YL4126 4500640 14050587.
