I'm looking to buy a repo bed for my '68 C10. Classic Industries is fairly close to where I live but they want huge money for everything PLUS tax :doah: If I could find a shop that will sell me the whole bed, without tax or shipping, I would pick it up while I'm at BB. It would be like a "phone order" with free shipping (cause I'm picking it up) and going to another state (no tax)

I hope.

Anyone know of a local shop that sells good repo panels? I know GMCPauls's and SoKy Classics sells good panels, but I can't remember the brand. TriPlus might be one of them. :dunno::doah:

You live in LA and are wanting to buy a Repo bed for a 68 near Moab:haha::haha::haha::haha::haha:

There ain't much in that part of Utah, or anywhere between Las Vegas and Moab for that matter.

Maybe Salt Lake, but past that I doubt it.

Plus you will still have to pay sales tax when you pick it up since it isn't being shipped.

I'm missing the humor :( haha

Basically, I don't like the local selection of factory short beds. They are either damaged and pricy, or clean and stupid pricy. I've heard good enough things about repo beds to consider them. Only problem.... the local Classic Industries catolog company is more expensive than out of state dealers PLUS the CA tax is added. Buying out of state and shipping is cheaper than buying here. Soooo, what would be better than buying out if state and picking it up? :D

I guess I should change the question. Any retailers outside of CA and along the path TO blazer bash? :)

1) sales tax is probably cheaper than CA, so it's still better.

2) My guess, if I "phone in the order" from home, giving them my CC and asking for "free shipping", they would be ok with me picking them up as if they are being shipped. Just hoping but I can't see a problem with it, especially if I'm spending $2800 with them. Dunno

They will still charge for sales tax unless you buy in Oregon. But if 2800 is your budget, you could spend less than half if that buying a clean used bed in OR including your gas to drive up and back.

Check Craigslist in AZ and NV, pick up an entire parts truck on your way home, you should be able to find a rust free one with a decent bed in that price range.

It's funny because your in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States that has resources like crazy and your looking into one of the most rural parts of the United States for a very specific piece.

I understand the cost etc. it just is funny to me because there are times I would kill to have the resources that are available to you. I've spent enough time in the greater LA area to understand why someone would live in Southern California, but the size and amount of people just isn't for me.

Spend some time on Craigslist etc. Anything from Salt Lake to Moab and 100 miles from I-15 probably would make sense.

True
The amount of customizing shops, retail stores, and junkyards is mind blowing.
If I go through Phoenix, there is a store there that has everything. I'll be calling them shortly to see if my "deal" is feasible.

I don't know anyone that does body work or has a shop I can use, can't do it myself (zero room), and don't have the room to part out another truck. So I'm looking for a cherry bed to paint and be done. If I could find a close to perfect bed, that's ok too but often times people want a lot of money and I'd still have to pay someone to fix it. :( So I'm kind of in a tough spot, even with all the resources. :)

I'm assuming you're talking about Grumpy's, unfortunately they are no longer in business.

Emailed them. Looks like the only method of communication. Just asked if it was an 8' or 6'.
