Returning after a few years... need help passing emissions....

Well unless you are talking about a high school dance I have no idea what you are saying.... lol

The PROM is the chip that's inside the ECM. It can be programmed to do things like edit out the EGR, adjust fuel tables, etc.

If you removed the EGR and blocked the opening, or just unplugged it, and drove the truck you'd get a SES light telling you there is a problem. After checking for the code it would tell you something is wrong with the EGR. So you could edit out the EGR so you wouldn't get a code/SES light.

If your chip has the EGR deleted then it won't allow it to work so your NOx readings are going to be high.

Ah. That makes slot of sense now... Still the question of can I pick that up at a local parts store or am I going to be searching around for it? And would I need to get it tuned?

IMO your best bet is finding the proper ECM for your truck, and just swap the whole thing out. I don't know what the market THINKS those ECM's are worth (used), but with a stock chip I'd say $50 or less.

In the past it's seemed harder and more costly to find just the PROM than the entire ECM with PROM.
