I remember reading something a while back about a resuable oil filter that you could wash-rinse like a K an N and resuse.
Had some sort of stainless screen thing in it, but I can't for the life of me remember the company.

Has anyone used one with any luck or know who offers them?

The one I am thinking of had flat screens, the whole filter was kindof flat, not round like a standard oil filter.

Theres a reuseable stainless mesh oil filter ad in this months enginemasters, but not flat like you say, looks like a standad filter.

Company is "purepower!" and the website is gopurepower.com.

I have one, if you want it, let me know. I bought it for some other project, but used it only for a day or two. It is made by racor, LFS 120 I think. Its big though, its a 1ft by 1ft x 3.5" sandwich.

It is designed for big rigs, so that they dont have to buy filters. unbolt 4 bolts, and you can remove the mesh. Even includes a remote lighted indicator light to show you that the flow is diminished and time to clean. Primary function is that you can visually see what kinda crud is comming out of your engine.

Reusing oil filters just sounds dumb.

Kind of like reusing a condom:screwy:

Er kinda, but not really. If you drive a lot, or need to do analysis, it makes sense. Plus, the mesh screen inside was made with more tolerance in mind than your 3 dollar disposible ones.

So its more like Using a cheap 50 for a dollar condom, or getting the 1 dollar per condom. They both do the same job, but damn if that condom fails...

It won't go on my 5k$ motor, but will be cheaper in the long run than replacing throwaway hydraulic filters.

O-berg was the name of the flat filters we used on our race cars. Moss, Faine, Schief are the names of some of the others that I remember. Dont roll your noses at reusable oil filters. They need cleaned every weekend. Good way to spot a potential problem. I would not recomend them on a daily driver thought as most of these were desinged for those that change oil every 2-3 nights of racing.

Damn, you beat me to it. The O-berg filter was very popular with the VW crowd years ago.
