working on a 87 chevy shortbed. no fuel system. got a k5 87 tank. and a bunch of other parts. a friends said i would be better just running new lines. if this is what i should do. what kind should i get? just want it done right the first time. next up. what about the filler neck on the tank? never thought of it. what am i going to do with that? as always thanks for the help

when i put my new engine in, the only fuel line i replaced was the stuff under the hood. that was about 1.5 years ago, and all is well. but, the lines weren't more than about 5 years old at that point, anyway.

Look at the locations though , he is East Coast ...... metl lines sometimes don't last a single winter :eek1:

thats true. im going to find something in the jegs book. any ideas what i should use?

There are companies that make reproduction stainless fuel lines. Of course change all rubber line as well and 87 is TBI so it is high pressure fuel hose instead of standard fuel hose.

yeah, i think we (guys from texas, new mexico, arizona, etc.) tend to forget how good we have it in terms of rust, corrosion and stuff. we just have to remember to check our electrical connections now and then, because the summer heat melts electrical tape into a useless goo.

any ideas on the filler neck on the tank? not sure what to do with that. thanks

Ok, what about the filler neck? What's your question? If it doesn't fit, get one that does:confused:

I know that I am coming in a little late with this, but I second the idea to get new stainless lines. A few weeks ago, my buddy and I were fooling with his fuel system for days after he installed a new carb. Previously, the truck had sat for a number of months, it ran fine before and we just couldnt figure out what the problem was. After totally screwing up the settings on the carb, and buying a stupid pressure regulator, one of our buddies came over and the first thing he did was look inside of the fuel lines and they were full of crap (this was in virginia). A couple of days and some new lines later, the thing runs great. I'm still mad that we didn't check that first... my two cents -LB

ok new lines it is. might just rubber, think it would be bit cheaper. anyone have a idea on the filler neck?

wish i could find a 73 k5. had a 74 lined up. so called friend i told him about it. he took it from under me. 39k on and it was sweet. now i know better
