rev limiter

I have an ORD doubler in my truck,and in low gear it revs very quickly. I bought an msd rev limiter for it, but have since converted to a stock TBI setup.
Does the stock computer (1990 suburban) have a built-in rev limiter, or do I still need to add one? Thanks.

I dunno about the 1227747 ECM and whatever PROM you TBI guys have in your trucks, but the same year TPI stuff does in fact have a rev limiter. Both rev limiter and MPH limiter.

Very simple to change in a PROM, I'd suspect if it's possible with the TBI ECM/PROM, somebody that burns chips would be able to "activate" it easily. Much simpler than adding in another component IMO.

And after a bit of research it does appear the 1227747 ECM does have the rev/MPH limits in it.

definitely get a rev limiter if yours doesnt have one built in. I was bouncing my tach which only goes to 5k... bounced it a few times this weekend!!!! I need a rev limiter too...

The factory limiters are usually too high for my taste. I'd add the MSD.

Thats why you change the parameters.

The .bin I'm using had the rev/MPH limiter set intentionally high by GM so it would never come into play (10000RPM/255MPH) but I know that some of the TBI stuff was actually at least MPH limited at something like 105MPH.

I'll play with tunerpro and the 1227747/truck .bin tonight and see what some stock .bin limit settings are. Chances are, if people are asking about them, they are too high for your uses.

I looked through a 1227747 .bin (no idea what it was from other than a TBI 5.7L) and didn't see anything for a rev limiter like I do for TPI.

Might be the difference between the car and the truck, since the TBI stuff in cars had a limiter. (along with the inlet air temp or whatever, that trucks also didn't use)

This is what I got from the MSD site:
"You can use the 8728 on that TBI. Just remember it will not override your computer. There is nothing that will unless you modify your computer. You can find a company like JET that could probly do that for you. and then the 8728 will work in its place."
Sounds to me like the computer HAS to be modified for the msd to work.
