Reverse lights

Well I picked up a set off reverse lights for my blazer. they are both 55 watts and put out like 20 amps(thats what the switch is so thats what i assume). Any way I got 2 trailier wiring things on my truck, a 7 prong, and the the standered 4 or 5 prong. my dad had the idea to use the power lead off of the 4 or 5 prong. Would this work?

you can use the 5th prong on the flat 5 to trigger a relay to turn on the lights, but you can not (or should not) power them straight off the trailer harness. Run a power wire from teh battery, use a relay, and use the backup light wire to trigger the relay. In my 91 i think it was green on the drivers side taillight, if you want to tap the wire going to the tail light housing.

well i was just gonna run it manualy with a switch so

so you don't want to run it from the trailer wires.

All you really need is one power wire from under the hood, run it to the back, and feed it with a switch. Then jsut ground to the frame in the rear.

I was just asking to see if i could save my self some work and power it from there, I am lazy lol

Why not just splice into the back up light wire at your tail lights and that way the reverse light you install will come on when you put it in reverse. This is what I did.

thats what i suggested, just use that wire to trip a relay, so you don't overload the stock wiring.

My stock reverse lights accually dont work for some reason. once in a while they will turn on

That sounds like corroded contacts inside the bulb sockets. Doesn't mean your wires don't work. Clean them and put some dielectric grease in there and maybe you won't have a need for additional reverse lights.

I alreday got the lights they were pretty cheap and they are bright
