Been lurkin on the forum for awhile now and gotta say i ‘ve learned a lot of what I need to start my build. Im glad to finally find a forum like this. Just moved to Washington to go to college, originally from Alaska an plan on taken this truck back with me. The plan for now is to get it lifted and get some good flex out of it, not gunna do a lot of hard wheelin till I can get her back home. the plan is build it for the trails and snow but also has to handle well on the roads.

So I gotta a few questions

1986 chevy ¾ ton with a fresh crate 350 and rebuilt trans

The plan…

Rear:
Diy 4x shackle flip kit (reversed for the 56” and few leafs taken out)
Extended usdr shackles 4”
Zero rates if needed
bumpstops

Front:
DIY4X B52 Kit
52" stock height springs from the rear of a 1/2 ton (few leaves removed)
Extended USDR shackles 4”
Zero Rate if needed
Ord’s Dana 60 Crossover Steering and High Steer Kit (2wd drive steering box)
Ord’s Swaybar Correction/Disconnect Kit™
Bump stops
Ord’s Bolt-in Steering Box Brace Kit and Weld-in Frame Repair kit.
Ord’s 1" Body Lift Kit and Body Mounts (only want to take it apart once)
Ford shock tower mounts

A set of 37x12.50 Super Swamper SSR tires on a set of 8 lug black steelies. Not even sure if they’d fit but I’m set on the ssr’s (wouldn’t mind trimming the fender wells). I also plan on bobin the bed.

So I guess my questions are:

What type shocks to run? Thought about the 5125 Bilsteins not sure what length I need most likely will wait on the shocks itll the springs and lift is in.

Can you still mount a front bumper with the 52’ kit?

Please feel free to add your two cents, any replies will be appreciated.
Let me know if I missed anything.

Sounds like the "standard" CK5 build. :D :waytogo:

Very similar to what I am doing.

The USDR shackles will work with the ORD shackle flip, but not Kert's. Plus they won't work on the front at all.

The stock swaybar is incompatible with crossover steering so you won't need the correction kit. Most people will tell you to just ditch the swaybar.

37" SSRs will fit with a little trimming up front and a lot of trimming in the rear if you mount the 56" springs long side forward. Short side forward, little to no trimming in the rear should be required.

Measure for shocks after you have everything else together.

You can still mount the stock front bumper (and presumably most aftermarket ones) with the B52 bracket in the rear position.

Don't forget extended brake lines and a CK5 membership. :deal: :D

Yea I was gonna mention the brake lines. Sounds about right as far as everything else though. Maybe throw a aftermarket bumper and a winch for good measure. I didn't see anything about axles. Are you planning on disc brakes or anything?

Your gonna need at least 14in travel shocks. Probably should inboard the rears and obviously remount the fronts with the ford towers.

I made my ford towers work with the stock shock mounts but since I just got my 14in travel pro comps I'm probably gonna lop the old ones off and mount them behind the C of the axle and do a straight up and down setup.

Looks pretty good, what size wheels are you gonna use? I'm trying to find some tires for a 16x8 8-lug and it'd be nice if a 12.50 would fit.

Where in WA are you going to school?

thanks for the replies, as of now the trucks my dd and hope to get everything i need ahead of time and take a weekend to install my lift. as for axles and gearing im not sure what i wanna due nor am i sure what to do for brakes. since im not goin to alot of hard wheelin down here ill just have to take it easy on braking and hope itll get me by till i can get back to ak to really tear into it. I'm going to school in bellingham wa at the bellingham technical college in the auto collision and refinishing course. but luckly was able to get a summer job on an offshore drilling plat form in the cook inlet (alaska) and with that money i plan to build myself the ultimate trailrig.

Well if your a technical driver that would rather figure the best course of action and take it slow rather than just mash the gas I would say go for a 3/4 ton setup and throw some chromo shafts in the d44. This will give you piece of mind and lots of diff clearance. Definitely get a dana 60 if you either drink by the feel of your right foot or have any ounce of thought into going with a bigger tire in the future.

very true, i do want to go with a d60 in the front. what would you recommend gearing wise for the rear?

when money permits i plan on custom front and rear bumpers with a winch mounted in the rear. i also plan on a can-back topper. also a 91 burbin front end.

If you get a D60 with 4.56 gears and re-gear your 14BFF to match I would think you'd be fine. I'm running 4.88 gears with 38" tires. Definitely swap discs on the rear if you can, and get 16 or 17" wheels so you don't have to grind calipers on the D60.
