Review my list...

You will have to supply the plug and wiring for the welder. I would eliminate the extension cord and use that money on a longer cable to directly plug it in. Just wrap up what you arent using. Our cables are 50 Ft. and looped around the tank when not in use.

I don't care for the short gloves personally. I have always used the longer ones that reach to the middle of my forearm. They keep slag and sparks from going up my sleeve. And thier only like 5 bucks more. Get both their cheap.

Depending on how much your welding, that tank might not last long. If you have the option I would get the largest tank I could. Now that being said I didnt have to buy or lease my tanks. For my oxy/acet. and mixed gas tank, no lease/ buy cost saved me over a gand:D.

The leather jacket while being and excellent product, Is very hot. Any physical exertion at all will leave you sweating in no time. They make a half jacket that just covers the upper part of your torso. It is much cooler, if you can get by with it.

I use one of the green fire retardent cotton jackets. It does get warm but not like the leather one. It is alot cheaper too. Like 15$ I have been using the same one for 6 months.

Hope this helps, looks like a nice set-up.

great info! thanks!

can you tell me more about the plug i'll have to supply? i didn't realize they don't come with power cords.

If your using a dyer outlet, look at the end of the cord. 3 or 4 prong. They come in several configurations. The ones I use are 50 amp. You can get the plug at menads/home depot/lowes or elect. supply store.

The cable I use is 6/3 w/ground. stranded cable, not solid. Might be overkill by a little. Better to be safe than sorry.

The plug was around 12$. The cable I don't know cost it was donated.:D

Colby, I got my Lincoln from IOC too and I was very happy with their quick service and help. Wish I would have gotton the 212 or 210 amp instead of my 135sp. But still welds most of what I need it to. Good choice.

Colby, check the prices at Maverick Welding Supply in Oregon City. That is where I get all my stuff from.

i found a place up on MLK i'm going to buy my equipment from. :) it's a bit closer for me

DOH!:doah::doah::mad::mad::mad:

Wanted to help out in the power cord but the damn sheet only gives 200/208/230v required and not amp draw. WTF??

Don't buy the extension cord they have. Make up your own:D

Find out what the supply or draw amperage is and if it uses 3 or 4 wires. Household dryer hook-ups are usually one of two sizes. 30 amp or 50 amp. Since it's $1400:eek1::eek1: I'm guessing it will be 50 amp but check anyway.

You might be able to buy a pre-made cable cheaper than you can build one yourself and it might have a nice rubber molded end as well. I'd look for cables for an RV. They are the same and should be cheaper than a welding or industrial supply shop.

crap. i just checked, and it's a 30 amp outlet, and yes, the welder is for 50 amps. now, i assume it doesn't draw 50 amps unless i'm really working it hard... is that correct? can i run it on a 30 amp circuit as long as i keep the power low?

You shouldn't try that. Do you know at what point the welder will need more than 30 amps? Willing to risk setting the house on fire if you get it wrong?

Books on basic household electricity are cheap & plentiful. Mucho betta to install a 50 amp outlet yourself:D

Googled "Install a dryer outlet":

It's not that hard just pay attention to what you are doing.

it's a rental, and my landlord doesn't want me welding here anyway... so i gotta come up with another solution! this kinda sux because i have that new body i need to weld a cage for, and now i don't have a work space... :(

I just got a Lincoln 220 ARC which has the same power needs. I had to wire it myself.

You need a NEMA type 5-60r(eceptacle) $10
deep wall box and cover. $5
6/3 with ground $2.50/ft
dual pole 50 amp breaker $10

1. Carefully plug the breaker into the main panel
2. Run wires
3. Dont get electricuted

You could mount the receptacle a couple feet from main breaker and get a 100' extension cord.

well, i ordered my millermatic 212 today. :D good stuff. turns out it's a 31 amp draw on full power - and i'll probably never use it on full power at my house. so i should be ok. i'm pretty stoked tho! picked up a full leather jacket and some gloves. decided to get the whole jacket because i 'm going to be working outside the whole winter on this - temps in the 30's - so i dont' think it'll be too much. :D
