*Review* New GM licensed LMC 83-84 Silverado grill

Today I took a 35 minute drive west to Kansas and arrived at LMC’s distribution center to purchase this new grill and headlight buckets (actually I drove my wife to a flooring store that just happened to be a few minutes north of LMC’s location.).

I made my way back home and like an excited kid on Christmas morning, tore into the boxes and pulled out the grill and buckets. I noticed everything looked like the originals that I had just pulled from an 83 Burb the day before, only they weren’t brittle and faded. They have a nice dark grey color that appears to be painted.

After the excitement wore off, I pulled out the old grill and buckets and finished cleaning them up (which involved scraping 35 year old adhesive backed body color tape off the trim). Once everything was clean, I hit it with the polishing wheel and those 35 year old trim pieces shined like new! I then installed some extra vinyl wrap that I had hanging out in the garage.










Then magic happened! Everything came together beautifully! All the trim and marker lights fit just like they should! As some of you know, aftermarket parts are hit and miss but this thing, for me anyway, was right on. The construction is solid and is made from ABS plastic. For anyone looking for a new grill for their truck but doesn’t want to spend $$$ for NOS, this is the best option!

Thanks! It's good to know that not everything they make is junk, a lot of threads I read about LMC say they are lacking in quality.

I hope it fits well. I helped a friend install an NOS grill in a '90, and we had to move some of the holes for the upper mounting screws. It made look twice to verify that it was a GM part.

That looks like a nice part. I need to do that too, my grill is held together with zip ties and baling twine right now.

WOW! Really nice! I'm actually looking at that grill for my 84 right now! Good to know they are quality it's a real bummer when pulling a less than quality part out of the box.

I’ve been waiting to see what the new ones looked like with the bowtie, the previous grille they had looked like crap. Might have to pickup a single headlight version.

How does it look without the bowtie?
Does it have the spot for the bowtie to fit or is it like the other ones with a bowtie poorly fitted to it?

I can’t speak for all of their products but this one is right on. I’ve heard the same about some of their stuff. Luckily I live close enough to their distribution center that I was able to put hands on it before I gave them money for one! Haha!

it’s got the spot specifically for the bowtie and fit up nicely.

Nice write up. I purchased the 81-82 grille, bezels and bowtie. These are also very nice restoration parts. On another note LMC is the only vendor who has the correct 81-87 Silverado aluminum dash insert. Everyone else's dash insert's aluminum applique doesn't wrap the 90 degree edge on the passenger side.

Just an update. This thing went in great! I didn’t have any issues and it looks awesome!

I need new headlight adjustment screws and brackets. My high beams are a little cockeyed.

Update.
This thing is still holding strong and looks better than the truck does (currently).
