Ok I've got an 86 Burb that a PO did a hack job on. It has an aftermarket alarm system on it that is hacked into everything under the dash, and who know what else they've hacked apart. I can't decide if I should rewire it from bumper to bumper myself and get rid of things I don't need or buy a kit from someone like painless or hotrodwires. This is going to be a winter project because I'm also replacing the dash with one from DIY4X and putting in all new gauges so I know what my motor is doing; I'm also planning on ripping the carpet out so the seats and everything will already be out. I know it’s a lot of soldering, slow moving, and is bound to give me a headache or two. I just can't decide which way to go. So what are the pros and cons of each?

I'm currently on the same page as you

Do you have a computer on that burb?
If not, it's even easier.

2nd the easy wiring kit. Lots of work, but if done right, you're good to go for another 20 yrs. Note that the wires going rearward to tail lights, etc will have to be extended.

Helping a friend rewire an old FJ with one, its a decent kit.
