I need to rewire and install new speakers n my truck. The preious owner did a nice butchering job of everything. The dash speakers have been taken out and he or she added a set of speakers in both doors. I will most likely leave those becasue I dont feel liek having a gaping hole in my door panel. GRR! My question is. Has anyone in here rewired there truck before? WHat kind of speaker wire should I get? Should I use wire nuts? Or should I use that shrink tube on the wires? Also does anyone know where I might be able to find 3.5 inch speakers and the one for the middle of the dash? Im not sure what size that one is.

thanks

I believe the wires are 20 ga.? Not too sure on the actual wiring cause i have so many different spools. I'd use the wire connectors and not the wire nuts. I HAVE used wire nuts and to me they are a temp. fix.

You can get the 3.5" speakers just about anywhere. Hell even Wal-Mart here has them. Try Crutchfield. The middle speaker is a 4x10

I use to install mobile electronics for a living before I became a plumber. All you need is some regular 18 gauge copper speaker wire .I like the rockford fosgate speaker wire cause it is cheap and rolls good.It really doesn't matter how you make your connections but soldering them is always best.Crimp connectors are fast and easy but they can come apart if not done properly or if you use the wrong size connectors or if you use crappy speaker wire.I like crimp connectors so don't take me wrong I have used them on my own cars but If I want it done right I solder.I always solder my wires directly to the speaker terminals because the slide on connectors can slide off and they usually do.Especially in a vehicle that rides rough.Just make sure to secure your wires good with zip ties and wrap your conections with electric tape or use liquid tape if it isn't going to rub anything like on the speaker terminals.as for speakers here are some 3.5s I have alpines up front in mine. But they still can only handle about 30 watts or less without cracking.Make sure you use bass blockers on the front speakers cause they can blow very easily if using a aftermaker deck.

I would use 16 gauge on any midrange speakers bigger than 4" to 6x9sAs for wire nuts never in a vehicle. The vibration will always loosen them up and they will come apart.
