I'm looking for a stationary (non-slider) piece of rear side glass for a K5, Right side, with the factory deep tint (privacy tint). (I think only offered in later 80's trucks->91). There was clear, and a light green tint, I'm looking for the deep tint version.

Can pickup most anywhere in MI or OH.....:D:D

If you know how to ship glass, I'll pay to have it shipped. LMC sells glass, (they don't have the privacy piece anymore though), so I know there's ways to ship it safe, I've no idea how it's done though...

Have you checked with a local glass company? I can't remember the last time I have seen smoked rear glass that wasn't a slider. Well, that's not true, but it was a buddy's K5 and it was totaled over 10 years ago.

Yeah, I've checked.

I've checked 5 or 6 local glass shops, and a couple national ones. They don't make them anymore. The deep tint version was lamenated (like a windshield). The glass places do carry the clear or light tint tempered pieces though. However, they did say, if you have the slider version, your even more screwed, no glass at all anymore for those.

I even called Pilkington Classics. Pilkington makes OEM glass, and they have a special division dealing with "vintage" auto glass. They said they can make it with a similiar tint, it would be tempered. It would cost some serious $$$, many hundreds. So if I went that route, I'd have to pay for both sides and get different gaskets (the deep tint lamenated, since it is thicker glass, uses a different gasket, which I already bought new a few years ago.

I know they're not that rare, they're around. Yards come up short here in the rust belt, most only keep late-model stuff due to rust and demand.

It'll turn up soon or later........hopefully!!!

I have one but if you can cover the shipping from packaging to your door, I would consider doing it.
I sold a freaking A/C box and packaged it like it was glass, and it got there in another box, all broken, so I can drop off in good condition at a fedex Kinko, or UPS store, and I wouldn't be responsible after that.
I will get you pics tomorrow hopefully.

Thanks. So I called a shipping place out there and asked them how much to pack it. They wanted to build a crate and ship it by truck. The packing was gonna come to $380 and the shipping was another $230. I'm not a cheapskate, but that's a little more than I can stomach.
These things are around, I'll just have to wait until one shows up near enough where I can go get it.

I actually may have a line on one at a yard an hour north of my house. I'm not holding my breath, I've been dissappointed by some of these yards before, but after describing in detail, they say it's what I'm looking for. I'll know later today....!!>!>!>

Yeah like we are going to pay $600+ for shipping a piece of glass, I could drive it there for that.:doah:

I believe I have one!! My buddy who lives near that yard went there and pulled it out.
It's lamenated so it's the deep tint variety. Nice, $50.
He's dropping it off in the AM at my house!!

No, but I suspect it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. He got there 15 minutes before they closed, the guy was already peed that he wanted to pulled it right then...
I can go get it next time I'm by there....

Glass guy came today and installed the windshield and 2 side pieces. He was happy I was warming the gaskets for him by the wood stove. They look very nice I must say. It's a whole different vehicle with the glass installed.
