Anyone tried this before, wanting to store a rifle in the car without thieves being tempted.

Im talking about strapping it to the underside of the rear bench seat so its no visible except when folded up.

Get a short enough rifle, and you can put it on the floor next to the drivers seat. Think saddle scabbard, just pointing towards front of truck. Some junk on the floor in the back on that side would conceal whatever stuck out from sight.

Doubt there is enough space under that seat for a rifle of any signifcant thickness, let alone with a ~35MM scope.

It's not visible next to the seat. You can't look down or across at anything next to the seats, as long as it doesn't extend forward of the seat, just have to deal with the back end. And if the rifle is short enough, almost nothing protrudes.

You are going to have to make a box or something if you want to "conceal" a full size rifle.

No pics, that truck has been gone almost 30 years.........But, in my '79, I had a four gun horizontal rack mounted to the back wall of the cab under the rear window behind the back of the bench seat.
Since I ran with the seat all the way back, none of the guns were visible from the outside.

Of course, they were not readily accessible, because everybody had to get out and the seat back had to be tilted forward to get to them.

And, once someone broke into the truck, there was no security after that because all they had to do was tilt the back forward and look.
But for someone just walking by and looking in, no guns were visible.

This is the problem because no gun should be left unsecured. It's just asking for it to be stolen.

You might be able to adapt one of these locking gun racks under your seat both to hold it concealed and to keep it locked when you're not there. These locks are also designed for quick access for police use so it should help if SHTF.

So just what i was to put in is a short M4, concealed under the seat so even someone in the vehicle doesn't know its there. I through the empty space under the rear seat would be ideal. I was going to secure it with a cable that runs through the seat supports.
