I'm debating on getting some new rims for the Blazer. Right now I have some 15x9 American Racing Outlaws on there, but there pretty beat up. I was wondering if there were any advantages to running a bigger rim. If I do go bigger, I know ill obviously need new tires. But is there anything else worth it to going to a bigger wheel? Max tire size in the future is MAYBE 37's, right now I have 35's.

15,s. Cheapest most available tires
16's mostly metric sizes avaliable
17's more expensive, a good amount of tire sizes avaliable with more coming. Seems to be the new standard of wheel size.

I would have to disagree with the 15's being the cheapest most availble. I help out a good friend of mine who owns a garage and we sell and install more 16's than anything. The 15's are getting harder and harder to get and they carry the same price as 16's if not more expensive. Maybe that's just up here in Wisconsin but who knows.. .......................

Personally I'm not a big fan of the bling pimp rim sizes. 15" is what I'd stay with unless you have a real reason for going larger, like larger brake discs and calipers. Plus from what I've seen you'll be paying quite a bit more for tires with the larger rims.

^^ which I don't understand. Why is less rubber more expensive:screwy:
and I hate how larger rims are more popular, even in the offroad tire segment. Stupid road queens are doing it. Save the big rims for the lowered trucks and cars. gezz

on a side note: I've got a 3/4t D44 and 14bff soon to have discs. Can I fit 15"s without a problem? I have 16s now.

yea youll be fine, a dana 60 is where the 15s start to cause a slight rub on the caliper.

17's are the most common these days. they are the oem wheel size on alot of vehicles. i dont like the big wheels myself either, but the biggest i run is 18's. my tires are 38's so there is a good proportion of sidewall still. i have the 18's with 38's on my crewcab, and for my k5 i am gonna run 17's with either 35's or 37's.

i called a tire shop near me to see what some bfg's at ko's cost and availability
35x12.50x15 $195 each, dont stock have to get them from warhouse
315 75 16 $235 each 2 sets in stock
315 70 17 $255 each 5 sets in stock

also, on my daily driver toyota pickup i have 31x10.50 15 bfg at's i remember years ago these tires were like 79 bucks each, they are now about 140 each. they also had to be ordered from the warhouse.

15's are all over here, and i was able to find TONS of them on craigslist. I had a pair of 16in beadlocks i got in a trade and i sold them just because the tire avaliablility wasnt there for me.

Smaller rim size tires are always cheaper, thats just the way it works.

It's just bad luck. When I was looking for 16's, all I could find were 15's. But when I was looking for 15's later on, all I could find was 16's:doah:

just messin around BTW with this and your comment :pimp:

Really, 16.5 forever on 3/4t and now 17 is a bling rim?????

Huh?

Martin

16.5's don't have a lip on the inside of the wheel like basically every other light duty wheel does. That means they are VERY prone to the bead popping off, a poor choice for a four wheeling tire unless you use something like the H1 double beadlocks.

I am aware of the lack of a bead lip. I still like 16.5" wheels. I have only had one come off the bead, and that is because the tire was leaking air all day after I lowered the pressure, so it had no pressure in it at all at the end of the day. The other three tires never gave me any problems at 8 psi. In do run inner tubes, so I think that may help.
