Gettin ready to buy my new tires and debating on moving up from 15" rims. will be putting a 14bff and 8lug d44/10b.

so not sure what size rims so get with my prefered tire size of 37".

didnt see another of these posts with a quick search so i made a poll

pick and discuss away

I would prefer 17" wheels solely because they clear 1 ton brakes easier and let the tire "walk" less. To go with the 17" wheel setup you will have to buy the 17" wheels (duh :doah:) and tires for 17" wheels are more expensive.

I run 15" wheels and don't think it really hurts performance any :dunno:

I would do 15" or 17". 15" is the old classic with lots of choices, and 17" is becoming the new 15" and has quite a few choices. Those are the 2 best choices especially for 37" tires.

17" here too. they aren't that much more expensive than 15's compared to 16/16.5/18's

that's what i'm gettin if i ever get another set

My 15's clear the 60, no grindy. But they do only have 2.5" bs and had them made that way.

Last check, a 37" mtr for 15's was way cheaper than the 17" version. Price your tire choice and wheels together.

16's. Clear D60's and 14FF's and are now a common size.

Anyone else remembering 5 or so years ago when everyone was up in arms about all the new sizes for 16's and how no one was supporting the 15's or 16.5's anymore?

Glad this came up as im trying to decide before the 31st. Think ill go 17's with 37's but not sure of 12.5 or 13.5. Going on 1tons. Any thoughts? Leaning towards the P C Xterrains.
Thanks for the thread-

I like the 15" rims. Looks better on the bigger tires, IMO. If you want bling for a rim such as a nice aluminum Classic II then go with something other than a 15". If you run only steelies then a 15" is fine.

***Hi Jack*** Does anyone out there know of a Classic II type of wheel in 15" That is 8 lug? I know this has been covered but might see if anyone knows today.

They don't make 15" 8luggers cause the aluminum rims are thicker and won't fit over the calipers at all.

As far as X-terrains I would look into something else IMO. MTR's, Truxus MT's, Maxxis Bighorns, BFG MT's, ... A good friend of mine in CO had a set of 35" X-terrains and he replaced them with 37" MTR's and said they were a way better tire for road life and offroad use.

Thanks, I was just thinking that buy 3 get 1 free w/shipping sounded good but would certainly rather buy whats working best. Ill check out your suggestions. I would like to set my k5 up for all around abilities and wont dd it year round, just summertime .
Thanks again for thread and sorry for HJing it

check out my thread.. i've got a couple sets of 37x12.50-16.5's that I'm trying to get rid of if anyone wants to go that way. They're new too

I would go with 17's... I just bought a set of aluminum 17x10 wheels for $524 shipped to my door and I got a new set of 35x12.5r17 goodyear mtr CORR race cut tires for $200 total!!!

I think the 17's will handle better on and off road with 37 inch rubber.

I had a set of 16.5, im running 18" wheels right now, I got a good deal on the 18" rims with iroks on em. I think my next tire/wheel package i will go with the 17s.:D

So when it gets down to it where is there a better selection of rubber. The 16" or 16.5" wheels? What is the Metric (or whatever it is called) equivilent to the 35" 12.5 Tires?

did some searching at looks like 16.5 has a little bit bigger selection of rubber, but just about the same as 16.

huge selection of 15" rubber

lots of the newer rubber out there has alot of 17 and even 18+ rim sizes

and whats the optimal amount of sidewall you want to run anyway so you can get a good wheel and tire size ratio? about 8.5 inches or so maybe ?

Remember that 16.5" has no safety bead and you can't air them down much for offroad use unless you have beadlocks.

16". As Hossbaby mentioned the 16.5" generally has no bead lip and is sorta a dinosaur. It's going away like it or not. Lots of the new tires that are coming out don't have it at all and oh so quietly a lot of the tire lines that used to have 16.5's have dropped them.

35x12.5R16 = 315/75R16.
