rim + tire width

I have some 35x12.50x15 BFG AT's that I need wheels for... What is the better width option for rims 8" or 10"?..........

Either is good. The tread width should be close to 9" on a 12.5 wide tire so either way it falls within 1" of rim width. Some people really like the wider look and go with 10" wides, however if your wheeling requires airing down significantly the 8" wide will help keep the tire on the rim a bit better. The narrower rim also is more protected from rocks...

If you are concerned with tire wear, the 10" wheels will help by keeping the tread flatter on the road. 8" wheels will tend to make the center of the tires wear faster as the sidewall is pulled in. My 35" BFG's wear completely even with 10" wheels. Try to compare the bead width of an unmounted new tire to see what it is in a relaxed state..... be sure to not get a tire that was on the bottom of a stack as it will be compressed. Generally rim width is close to 90% of section width on car tires &amp; 80% on taller truck tires. Wider wheels tend to make the sidewall stiffer (great on the street, generally bad offroad) &amp; increase steering response at the expense of increased potential impact damage to the wheel.
