Im trying to finish my swap and Im using a different carrier. The bolts I have from my old carrier are the 1.8" long ones and I need the 2.1" long bolts.

I went to two dealers, napa, and another shop and none carry them. Napa and the other shop told me to goto a hardware store and just get some grade 8 bolts. Anyone know if I can run any bolts or are the ring gear bolts something special?

Im going from a 3.73 gear/carrier to a 4.56 gear/carrier

DO NOT use just any bolt, IIRC the ring gear bolts are special shouldered. Your gear set should have come with new bolts and since it didn't i would return the gear set and buy a different brand or have the place you bought it from see if another set has the bolts. I ran into this when i did my gear swap years ago and it just turnd out that the gear set was shorted the bolts.

A driveline shop should have the correct bolts, or be able to get them.

IIRC, my gears did not come with the bolts. But the install kit did.

I might have a GM part number for the correct bolts now that i think about it. I'll check tonight when i get home.

the thicker case from the gear split made the bolts to short. just a fyi for you or others searching later.

a good master install kit would have come with bolts. both my 60 and 14ff did .

Ive found the part numbers.
For the 4.56+ carriers I will need 331421.
4.10- will need 331422

I bought my gears/carrier used and from different people. The gears Ive had forever and purchased the carrier maybe a year ago. My yukon install kit came with everything but ring gear bolts and that was also purchased some time ago. I never even thought about the bolt size until the time came to put the new one together. The older bolts fit, but not alot of thread is showing before its all bolted together and I dont wnat the rear blowing up on me.

I kinda figured I shouldnt use regular bolts, but with all these places telling me to get regular ones I wanted to double check.

**I also have a bunch of part numbers if anyone needs a part for their 14b.

I do have another question. Im trying to get the truck together for this weekend and make a trip to raush creek. Does anyone think itll be ok to run the shorter bolts from the 3.73 carrier just so I can make this trip?

I ordered the longer bolts but they may take a while to get in according to gmpartsdirect.

Or is this just asking for trouble by having my carrier come apart and destroy everything?:doah:
