Planning trip from New Orleans to Colorado for last week of June. I've been twice before, but I took my daily driver (2006 Nissan Titan) and my mountain bike. This time I want to go big - with our 1972 K10 LWB "Daisy." We've had her for about 6-8 months. I've added a 4" Tuff Country lift, springs front & rear and a set of 35x12.50 M/Ts. She is pretty much bone stock other than that as far as I can tell. Planning to drive from New Orleans to Ouray and run some of the passes in the area, Imogene, Ophir, Engineer, Cinnammon and Corkscrew. So am I crazy or will this work?

You shouldn't have a problem with clearance and you may have to 3 point a couple of the turns but no major issues. Might be a little snow on the high points but plenty passable by then.

If the truck is carbed and points may require some adjustment for altitude.

The only one of those trails I haven't run that I know of is corkscrew.
Several members live nearby and depending on your route I am on the way also.

I haven't been on corkscrew, the other runs have all been done. I have HEI so I didn't have to mess with any ignition issues up there. I did have to throw some leaner rods in my Edelcrap carb to keep from bogging down and stalling out. I went one stage lean on the rods and it made a huge difference once we were over 10k feet. Once we headed back down to Denver and Colorado Springs altitudes it wanted the richer rods again.

The biggest challenge with high country trails is being prepared for the weather. It can snow (heavily) at any time in the summer. Take a book with trail descriptions and also invest in some quality topo maps of those areas. And as always, never go alone.

Vacation is getting close. Anyone in the Ouray area wanna run a trail with me in the last week of June? I am looking at going on the Monday 24th & Tuesday 25th.

I have to leave for the east coast on the 28th. If I have my semi painted by then, I would be up for a run or 2.

Metrodps is in Ouray.

Good luck with $4.00-ish gallon gas prices, too! :doah:

Post your route, there's always people along the way that would be willing to help if you run into trouble.
