Roadkill Garage

That's not lost on me Rene, DF building a tunnel rammed big block for his 32 that makes over 1,000 hp N/A isn't avg guy stuff.
That's hard-core stuff. But remember these are hard core guys that do make a living with their hobby.
It's not a hobby, it's their profession.
Got to remember that SD was a freelance journalist, so they means putting out his own dough to write cars articles and getting paid once the article is bought.
Don't think for a second that DF And SD aren't getting company money to spend on parts.
They are. But they need to make content.
Spend money to make money.

RG wouldn't be worth watching every episode was a budget 300hp 350 small block.
It just wouldn't be.
The redeeming quality is that, this fact isn't lost on DF, he realizes he's in a very unique situation that he gets paid to play with his toys.
And that he's using company money to pay for parts.
He's very very selective on what he tells the camera about where parts come from.
He can be very open about him paying for parts with his dime. And he can be pretty quiet about it to.
That's 110% calculated.
In my opinion.
The fact that he's pretty open about it and he make it known that you don't need to be as extreme to have fun in this hobby. That is why it doesn't bother me. And why I think they still apply to to the avg guying building a 57 poncho.

I agree completely, and I'm not bagging on DF, or SD at all.

As I am building my '57, and drawing a lot of inspiration for it from the RK '56 Chevy Field car, that's where my comments come from. Paying full retail for all, and having to source it all can be eye watering at times. As I stated in my build thread I need one of everything, it's gonna take a minute...and it has. It's also taken most every bit of extra cash along the way. It's still a piece of shit in most eyes, and yet I'm North of $20K USD so far. I feel like this is a hobby best started young where you have time to accumulate good parts that can be drawn upon for projects later. I'm not complaining, it will get easier and once built any improvements will be easier to deal with vs a complete clean sheet build. Have they all inspired me though...fox yeah they have!!

100% agree. The chevelle is over 25k in parts alone.
And it still need a ton of stuff to be a "nice" car in the eyes of many. It's tough. This hobby is not easy when you talk about it from a financial aspect.
You have a great point on hording onto stuff if you can.
I think your 57 is pretty damn cool. I lurk around your thread a bit here and there even though I don't think I've ever said anything.
I don't say much on here much anymore. For my own reasons.
Keep at it Rene. I can't wait to see you at drag week in a few years.

No. Your thinking of rocky Mt race week.
My bad. Yeah NC, SC and TN it looks like. I was thinking Rocky Mountain. I also enjoy the street outlaw no prep when they come through Denver too. Looks like Sept 8th. Few pics from 2022 in Denver.

I feel like that would have been “easy” or at least easier 20yrs ago. Quality OE/NOS parts are getting very hard to find or are extremely expensive now. Aftermarket parts are available of course, but depends on your needs and if the quality is there. Part of it is the times but part is also the passing of time. Certainly the days of easily being able to source rust free cheap square parts are gone for good (aside from a random good deal or find).

I was just thinking about that guy, username MountainMan or something that had like 20-30 dana60’s some 20yrs ago. That would likely be a goldmine now

Dana 60 prices have not changed at the same rate of the rest of the sqaurebody pricing.
I know some might disagree with me.
But at least in my neck of the woods a Dana 60 front 25 years ago was 1,000 bucks.
Now, they are 1300 to 1500. Or a 50% increase.
But truck prices in itself are way higher then that. A 1500 dollar truck is now 3500, over a 100% increase. For example.

Still parts out there. Just got to get out and look.

Agreed, overall d60 prices havent changed as much as price of complete trucks, but he wasnt paying market prices. He was finding them for $200-300 if I recall, i remember reading his stories about his finds and being extremely jealous. Dont think he ever paid more than $500 for a complete one.

Nice decent d60’s on east coast are much more $$ than west coast, geography matters

All I know is it definitely requires a lot more due diligence and scouring to find quality Truck content. I’m honestly getting tired of old mopars
