Great news from UROC, StoneGate Media, and ESPN II - Looks like RockCrawling's pilot episode on major media (ESPN II) will now be a 1 hour show (split into 2 segments) and for our sport, that's a touchdown. Pilot shows are where a program has it's biggest opportunity to make an impression and having twice the time to share our story will give us better odds of pleasing the powers that be in the world of major media. I was bummed when I first heard that our pilot would only be 1/2 hour, but now that they have combined the first two episodes spanning a full hour of programming, it will have more of a "big show" feel and that's the best news I've heard in awhile. The combining of the episodes does mean we'll be waiting an extra week to see the show's debut, but marketing-wise, this will be worth the wait.
Here's the new schedule as of this afternoon:

Episode 1 - St. George, UT - Thursday - 07/08/04 - 4:00pm EST

Episode 2 - Vernal, UT - Thursday - 07/08/04 - 4:30pm EST

Episode 3 - Cedar City, UT - Thursday - 08/12/04 - 4:00pm EST

Episode 4 - Jellico, TN - Thursday - 09/16/04 - 4:00pm EST

Episode 5 - Farmington, NM - Thursday - 10/28/04 - 4:00pm EST

Episode 6 - St. George, UT - Thursday - 11/04/04 - 4:00pm EST

Episode 7 - SUPERCRAWL III - Thursday - 12/16/04 - 4:00pm EST

Maybe I'm just in a funk, but I wasn't at all impressed. I'm a throttle jockey to the end, and so it seems, is every competive rock crawler out there. Doesn't take a genius to point their "rig" at the rocks and hammer the throttle. I think I saw one competitor actually "crawl" the rocks. How in the name of all that is holy does someone break a front D 60 axle shaft with a 2400 pound vehicle and 37's? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Forgive the attitude, I just didn't see anything extrordinary(sp?).

I call it, "Vertical drag racing."

It's so destructive that I can't stand watching it.

Rock climbs are boring, they need to do actual obsicles not just shear faces. There were a couple of bic notches and shutes at that comp but I guess launching up a wall make for better yuppie TV.
