There doesnt seem to be too many options for rock sliders for our rigs. One of the problems Im finding is the Pinch weld. Most rock sliders come out UNDER this. My truck with 2" lift and running 33s doesnt leave me much room and rock sliders hanging Below the pinch weld look odd.

Have anyone made any custom rock sliders to get around this problem?

I have an idea, but have to wait to talk to the fab guy tomorrow.

More to follow.

Square tubing or round tubing?? whats the pinch weld is it the bottong edge of the cab?? what about through it?

Im going with Square tubing. Im probably going to go thru the pinch weld. I thought about using an "L" bracket to mount to the body underneth and then come Under the pincweld and then have the square tubing sit on top of it. But that would leave less clearance Under the tubing due to the L bracket. Ive got an idea of running the L bracket thru the middle of the square tubing. similar to how they put D ring mounts on a bumper. This would just mean notching the pinchweld and it would give a clean look under the rock slider.

Here is a very crude drawing. lol This is as if you were looking from the front of the truck down the side. I would basically be dissecting the tube and sandwiching the L bracket between the tubes. Also like welding up an end cap on the tube, but the L bracket will be the cap and then just weld each side of the tube to the L bracket, so the L bracket will be inside the tubing so to speak. It wont be sticking down below the rock slider and it wont just be welded to the outside of it (weak link IMO). I can then notch the pinch weld and the rock slider will be up tight against the body but not stick out too far.

Basically the way BlazenOffRoad did theirs only it wont be below the pinchweld.

Black = side of truck to include pinch weld

Gray = body support that most rock sliders bolt to

Red = 1/4"or thicker "L" Bracket

Blue = Rocker slider square tubing

i like the square tube ones, But need to be removable if you guard the fual tank on a truck, but not a problem on a blazer

Many people just make their own from what ive seen.and...thats prob what ill do

I'm going to be doing a mini boat side, with sliders built into/from that, which will also tie into the cage. Stout!

If I understand your drawing, I think you and I are on the same idea, except I am using rectangular tubine (2"x3"x 3/16"x90", 45 degree typical). I haven't as of yet figured out if I want to mount my set to the frame or the body. I know if I go to the body then there will be the body way, and if I replace the body mounts later there might be a gap between the sliders and the body later. Still thinking, but I do have the rec tube cut, capped and sanded, ready for the round tubing to be bent.

Wow..now I know why fabricators get so much money. I just spent 3 hours making 2 brackets. I only have 6 more to go. lol. Im hoping my idea works. Ill start taking pics once I get more work done. The finally welding will be done at 4x4 fab shop.

not to be a smart ass, but you could take two pieces of flatbar ( or commonly called fb) cut one long and the other short. The long piece is your tall piece of the 'l', then take the short one and have it welded on, that will be your leg of the 'l'. Just a thought!

The L brackets arent hard to make. I got some 1/4" steel plates that are 6 x 6 and some cut off blades for my grinder, cuts them pretty good.

The biggest problem is drilling the 1/2" holes in the plates. I have to use numerous drill bits to step up. and then test fit the plates, plus i had to cut some of the pinch weld. So it just takes time.

i love em. They make quick work on holes

I know I've posted these a few times but they worked really well and I am far from a perfesional fabricator or even a good one. These were pretty easy. I see this questions a lot about truck sliders alot. Unfortuanately the truck is gone and I've sold these sliders.

SOPE,

So you actually designed your setup to mount underneath that lip on the bottom of the body panel, right? Was that by chance or by purpose?

Here are mine. They go under the pinch weld seam as well, but it's up as close as I can get it for now. Version 2 will replace the rockers in the body.

These started life as Blazen Of Roads bolt in sliders 2x3 .250 wall tube. I added the extra 2x2 .250 wall tube.
