Rock Sliders

I do agree that body mount is better. I came up with some frame mounted ones because it's easyer with a pick up and I incorperated a saddle tank skid plate in to them. I've had my frame mounted ones on a while and so far so good. I've jacked on them and hammered them hard and no problems. I have been keeping an eye on my frame for cracks near the sliders. Here's a pic of what I came up with.

I don't particularly like that design, since it is more of a hybrid body/frame mount. The problem with that type of design, is you are tying the sliders to both items, but they are designed to move individually. Not saying it wouldn't work ok with some rubber bushings, but it appears to be hard mounted to the frame, and that doesn't seem like a good design for our trucks.

As sope said, some people have gone to the frame, and it may work long term it may not. His truck is also modified (trimmed) so it is a bit different class than what I am going for. It just depends on what you really want out of it. Sope has done a very good job on his sliders, and it may be a great design that lasts for years. I just personally prefer not to tie into the frame for this type of setup.

Edit: Both the Toy and the Scout have less distance from the rockers to the frame than a K5. So they are applying less leverage than the wide body/narrow frame design of the K5.

I've been looking at the body mount method and I can't see it being that strong or lasting very long when I crawl up a rock and expect it to slide down the rock slider to the rear wheel with these in the way?

they work well. I have a very similar set up, and basically set the whole truck on them on several occasions w/ no problems.

All that does is transfer vibration from the frame to the the body. Trust me, I've tried it.

Mine are mounted to both the frame and body and to the cage, all hard mounted, no bushings. I have come down way hard on the slider, put a small dent in one. .120 wall 2 inch DOM Hartley Truck and Tubing built them.

Is your body hard mounted to the frame with no body bushings?

I just cut the rockers and did 3x3" 3/16" wall square tube. They also tie to the frame and cage.
