rocker pannels

anyone wanna talk me into replacing rocker pannels on full size k5??
i can weld and fabricate like the rest of 'em, but i've never done any body work on an auto, other than BONDO...
i see you can buy just about any pannels you want,,, but i guess i'm afraid of cutting too much off and being left with crap..
also need to do the rear by tail gate...
anyone wanna talk me through this??

our trucks, whether it's a k-5, pickup, or a sub, are gonna rot in the rockers, its just a matter of time, so rather than have to fix it again, i used the fiberglass cloth. i just put it on five layers thick, and it's held up fine for 10 months of rocks, flexing, and some snow; plus i don't have to worry about it rustin out there again.
