Rocker Support Boxes

What exactly do these support? If I put a front cage on the roll bar in my '72 could I get rid of them?TIA

They are to compensate for the absence of a roof. Without them the floor would flex until the door jammed.

If the cage is tied to the frame it would help, but when you flex it you would most likely still taco and bind the doors.
