Roll Cage Question

Am I crazy for doing it?

I have an opportunity for a friend with skill to help my no skill self mock / fit my cage kit in the next couple of weeks.

My problem is I want to spray bedliner without the cage in place.

They are dang strong just on the down bars or across the top. If welded in properly they should be just fine anywhere.

Just make sure that you can unlock them. Double check they will all slide apart how you plan cause they have zero tolerance for misalignment

I’m thinking of using them in the angled part of the A pillar bars parallel to the windshield post.

Once you get them you will say. Good greif and I was worried about the strength?

You will have zero issues there. I have seen em used several times in the exact area you speak of

Probably don’t need chromoly though. Standard steel is good enough. I would use them on as few vertical bars as possible just as general rule of thumb.

I have plans to use them on parts of my cage as well. They are very strong by design.

Why not just build the cage then pull the whole thing. You have a full vert so it should be super easy.

This is the route I went, put the cage in and out a couple times during the process. Tacked things in while it was bolted to the tub, then pulled it and it was full welded so the welder could get on all sides, flip the cage on its side top whatever needed, then put the thing back in, checked for fit, pulled it cleaned sanded areas, primed painted and re-installed.

The only reason I'm considering the disco's is because I'm doubtful the A pillar bars will clear the windshield frame / dash. I haven't mocked it up yet to be sure. If it clears then I'll let it ride as one piece, just assuming the cage would be removable as a 90% assembly without the bottom 2/3 of the A pillar bars.
