So I have the DIY 4x4 roll cage kit. Should I bolt the mounting plates on top of the carpet and sound deadener or bolt the mounting plates direct to the metal floor pans?

Definitely metal on metal. Cut the carpet in a “p” shape to trim around the posts once you’re finished with the cage

Initially I just assumed I would bolt it to the carpet but after talking to a guy that sells sound deadening and heat insulation today and he told me that was a bad idea. It wasn't that I didn't trust him but I thought you know maybe I should ask more people that have done it before I just go for it. That'll actually make my life easier going ahead and bolting metal to metal.

Watch the floor shape under the B pillar, the floor plates I got overlapped a 1” tall step. I didn’t like the gap between the plates and floor, I was worried it might continually loosen until it finally compressed the floor flat. I had Kert make me some plates with a step that fit great, I got the feeling he thought I was overthinking it but it made me feel better.

I also had him make me bigger C pillar plates so the bolt holes all landed on a high rib instead of the gap.

This is helpful. I've wondered about both of these spots but haven't mocked up the plates. You think if I asked he'd make me some like that?

Probably, I think he saved all this info on orders. I believe he is a 1 man show now though so wait time may be longer.
