I started building a rack for my 89 suburban and thought i'd post some progress pics. I laid out the tubing this morning and bent a few hoops to get started then I added some light tabs and temporarily install the lights. I am waiting on the other 2 lights to arrive by ups:mad: Anyway, I am hoping it turns out the way I had drawn it in Bend -Tech .:D Heres the pics.

Any thoughts?

I am going to make 6 8x8 mounting plates and bolt it through the roof. I don't think the gutters would hold enough weight.:D

So you're planning on carrying small Third World countries? :haha:

I'm a big fan of those Hellas, btw.

That looks good. What's the diameter of the tubing? Hopefully I can sttart building my own rack this spring.

Heres an update. I have tacked it together and I am in the process of making the plates to bolt it to the roof.

Nice rack:waytogo:...always wanted to say that to someone besides my wife.:D I love the shadow grass camo too!!

The Camo is called CamoClad . You can buy it from Cabelas or Bass pro shops or Macks prairie wings. I bought mine locally. The kit was $999.00 It is a BIOTCH to install but its been on for 5 years and has'nt faded a bit.:D

When my K5 gets repainted I was thinking about redoing the middle of the two tone to a camo stripe. Max 4 would be awesome to do.

I can just imagine just what a pain in the ass that camo was to put on. My god, I have trouble with some small decals lol. Did it wrinkle on you much?

:DThe trick to applying the camo is to wet the car down then apply the camo and squeegy the water out from behind it. Kind of like applying large decals. It took 3 days and 5 friends to get it done.:D

Could you show pictures of how you attached the rack to your roof? How are you water-proofing the through bolts? Are you making the rack easily removable?

I used 6x6 plates and bolted it through the roof. It is not easy to remove.I put silicon underneath the plates and around the bolts themselves. It has'nt leaked yet.:D

Here are the finished pics.

Looks awesome. You running a headliner? I'd still be nervous about the plates leaking until i coudl see the opposite side during rain.

Turned out really nice...

I'm gonna do almost the same one on the crew cab, but have to finish up the K5 first...
